If you are an NCAR/UCAR visitor or contractor who uses your own device, please visit the CIT Password Portal to reset your password.
New password requirements
Your new password must meet the following requirements.
Your new password must:
- not match one of your last 24 passwords
- not be similar to a common password
- not match one on a readily available list of compromised passwords
- contain an upper alpha character
- contain a lower alpha character
- contain a numeric character
- contain a special character
- not contain a keyboard pattern like qwerty
- not contain a character pattern like abcde
- not contain a repeating pattern like abcabc
- not contain a repeating character like aaa
- contain at least 9 characters
- contain at least 5 unique characters
You may not have to comply with all these rules if your password contains 15 or more characters.
Change an existing password using CIT Password Portal
If you know your current password and want to change it, you can do so in the CIT Password Portal without being enrolled in this system.
ATTENTION MAC USERS
After resetting your CIT password in the password portal, follow the instructions for Resetting your local Mac password

Visit the CIT Password Portal.
Select Change.
Enter your username and domain (cit.ucar.edu).
Select Next.
In Old Password enter your current password
Create a new password following the password requirements and enter it in the New Password and Confirm Password fields
Select Next and complete any remaining prompts to finish changing your password.
Resetting your local Mac password
Please follow the above steps before proceeding.
If you changed your password in the above steps on a device other than your Mac, follow the instructions for Resetting your local Mac password from another device
If you are currently logged in to your Mac, then Jamf Connect should detect that your CIT password has been updated and you will see the following message dialog in the notification area.
Click the notification.
Sign In to Jamf Connect with your updated CIT password
When you see the dialog "Your local login password doesn't match your CIT password"
Type in your previous CIT password you logged in to your Mac with and click Sync.
Hint: it's the previous CIT password you just changed your from.
If you do not see any errors or additional dialogs, your updated CIT password successfully synced with you Local Mac user account. Your CIT password and Local Mac account now have the same password.
Resetting your local Mac password from another device
If you changed your CIT password using the password portal on another device and your Mac is currently turned off:
Follow these steps the next time you turn on your Mac to sync the new password with your local Mac account.
Power on your Mac
When you are at the first login screen (FilevVault login), type in the following:
Username = Your CIT Username
Password = Your previous CIT Password before changing it in the PWReset portal
The next login screen you will see will be the Jamf Connect login screen.
Please sign-in with your CIT email address and click Next.
For the next password
Please sign-in using your new password that you updated to in the CIT Password Portal.
Jamf Connect will see that your Mac's local password does not match the password you updated in the PWReset portal and will ask you to to sync the passwords.
Your new password will replace your previous password for the local Mac account.
Please type your previous password, the password you used prior to the password change and click sync.
Hint: it's also the same password you used in the first login (FileVault Login)
If there are no errors you will be logged in to the macOS.
Now that your password is synced, going forward please use your updated password only.
