There are multiple methods available to staff who wish to use the wireless network. The preferred method for staff is to use the WPA2 protected wireless network 'UCAR Internal'. Staff may also connect their "BYOD" (Bring Your Own Device) using UCAR Visitor or eduroam as described below.

Secure "StaffNet" Network

The secure StaffNet network provides secure wireless access to internal UCAR networks using certificates for authentication. A UCAR Sysadmin can configure connectivity to this network, and in most cases, a UCAR-managed device will automatically connect. This is the preferred route for UCAR-managed devices as it will provide the most security and the most seamless operation for users.

Secure "eduroam" Network

UCAR has joined the Eduroam secure worldwide federated wireless network service. This service is primarily for staff who are traveling to other institutions which are members of Eduroam. It also provides an option for handling BYOD situations where a divisional sysadmin is unable to vet a device for access to the 'StaffNet' network.

For staff which will be traveling it is recommended that the 'eduroam' configuration be set up and tested on the device while they are still on-site at UCAR.

For BYOD situations, staff can self-enroll using this link.  The resulting profile will work on 'eduroam' both at UCAR and other participating institutions. The local 'eduroam' network is identical to the 'UCAR Visitor' wireless network aside from the name and wireless authentication methods used.

Open "UCAR Visitor" Network

UCAR Staff can put their devices on the UCAR Visitor network by simply connecting to the network and opening a web-browser to register. See the Wireless Access for Visitors page for more information.
